Areas of Interest

Dr Stemm sees clients with a range of presenting concerns, however, she also holds a special interest and extra training in the following areas.

Psychological Adjustment to Chronic Illness/ Chronic Pain

Dr Stemm completed her Clinical Doctorate research in the area of stroke, examining the psychological factors which influence individuals' emotional adjustment following a stroke. She has also worked within a multi-disciplinary chronic pain unit, and regularly still works with clients adjusting to chronic pain and other chronic health conditions.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

Dr Stemm often works closely with clients who are diagnosed with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. She continues to engage in training and professional development in this area, and enjoys assisting clients with OCD to live full and highly-functioning lives, with reduced reliance on compulsive behaviours.

Mood and Anxiety Disorders

Dr Stemm has extensive experience working with a variety of mood and anxiety disorders, including Bipolar Disorder, Schizoaffective Disorder, Major Depression, Health Anxiety, Phobias, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, and Social Anxiety Disorder.

Complex Trauma

Dr Stemm frequently works with individuals with chronic lifetime trauma, often first experienced in childhood and thereafter. Dr Stemm recognises the significant and pervasive impact that childhood trauma can have on the emotional and social functioning of an individual, well into their adult life, and she enjoys working with these individuals to improve their self-worth, interpersonal functioning, self-compassion and general day-to-day functioning.
